tonger

cut from the local newspaper

"God fan wrâld en alter,
Slaan acht op ús geskriem,
ús lieders binn’ net al te,
it libben wurdt fergriemd;
de dikke beurs hat honger,
it domme praat is baas,
fergun ús wer jo tonger,
ferlos ús fan’t geblaas".

first part of a poem by Eppie Dam from the new book "Giftige Simmer". (For the people who can't read it its in Frisian).

Its based on a poem of Chesterton that follows under.

O God of earth and altar, bow down and hear our cry,
Our earthly rulers falter, our people drift and die;
The walls of gold entomb us, the swords of scorn divide;
Take not Thy thunder from us, but take away our pride.

From all that terror teaches, from lies of tongue and pen,
From all the easy speeches that comfort cruel men;
From sale and profanation of honor and the sword;
From sleep and from damnation, deliver us, good Lord!

Tie in a living tether, the prince and priest and thrall;
Bind all our lives together, smite us and save us all;
In ire and exultation aflame with faith and free,
Lift up a living nation, a single sword to Thee.

"oh deed I do"

A briliant song by Elyse (Elyse Weinberg) from the album with the same name. Melancholic & hypnotic how the song flows and fills up more and more.. hear those out of tune flutes (which remind me of the original song Lament (flexie disk version) of The Cure)
I discovered this album because Neil Young plays on houses. I just read that Dinosaur Jr covered that song on the Deluxe version of Farm. That i must have.

"Oh deed i do" is written by Bert Jansch.

You can find the song here

The lyrics:

"Now, it makes no difference what you do, I love you, babe.
Well, I need your lovin', I need it bad, oh deed I do.
Now, you don't believe me when I say I love you, babe.
I wanna know the score, all I want is more, oh deed I do.
I wanna lay you down, prove to you I love you, babe.
I wanna turn you on to my lovin', babe, Oh deed I do.
I got the blues like a Gypsy Dave never has, babe.
I got a jealous dream of losing you, oh deed I have.
Now I can never say I'd ever miss you, gal,
'Cause I'm proud as a king, I wanna hear you saying Oh deed I do.
Won't you break my mind and take your time to love me, babe.
You've shattered my brain with a mean saying, oh deed you have.
And you've taken every thought of love I'm thinkin', babe,
you've hung them high, gonna let them dry beneath the sun.
I'm gonna bend the bones that hold my blues together, babe.
I'm gonna stretch the string that my troubles bring to me each night.
I'm gonna sing a song with words that say I love you, babe.
I say I need your lovin' and need it bad, Oh deed I do.
Now, it makes no difference what you do, I love you, babe.
Well, I need your lovin', I need it bad, oh deed I do".
